To My Dear Students,
In his Inaugural Address, President Obama spoke of “the G-d-given promise that all are equal, all are free and all deserve a chance to pursue their full measure of happiness.”
Where did G-d offer us this promise? It was first revealed in the opening chapter of Genesis, where G-d proclaims that the human being is created in G-d’s image.
We are G-d’s image on earth, and every bearer of that image is equal to every other bearer of that image. No one has the right to enslave, abuse, or look down upon an image of G-d. All people must be free to live up to their highest, G-d given, potential.
Torah teaches that we all partake of G-d’s holiness, that we all contain a spark of the Divine, that we all have dignity and worth. I hope you see yourself in that way, and I hope you see others in that way.
Shabbat Shalom,
Your Rabbi |
