Just By Asking The Right Question.
  16 Nissan 5769

To My Dear Students,

As author Gertrude Stein lay dying, she raised her head for a moment and was heard to sigh, "What is the anwer?"  A few moments later, she again lifted her head and whispered, "What is the question?"  Her second thought was her better thought.

Passover is based on questions.  We ask the traditional Four Questions, read the questions posed by the Four Sons, and inquire into the meaning of matzah, marror, and the shankbone.

The very first question in Torah is posed by G-d to Adam following Adam's disobedience:  "Ayekha,"  Where are you, Adam?  This challenging question echoes in all times and places.  Indeed, where are we in our lives, what is the state of our soul, what is the level of our learning, what is the perception of our purpose?

Isidor Rabi, American Nobel laureate in physics, attributed his success to his mother.  "When I came home from cheder (religious school) she would never ask me, "What did you learn today?"  Only, "Isidor, did you ask a good question?"  Rabi's mother knew that Judaism placed a premium on asking good quesions.

Sometimes we grow and advance just by asking the right question.

All best for Chag Pesach Sameach!

Your Rabbi
