Helene Jacobs was a pillar of the Temple and Sisterhood. Not only was she multitalented but she shared her gifts with everyone. Among her many accomplishments, she served several terms as President of WTBY, helped run the Gift Shop with Sorrell Wayne, and she created the first Tu B’Shevat Seder as well as the first Chocolate Seder. She helped with the shopping trips to stock the Gift Shop and was there to do all the jobs associated with the Gift Shop as well.
Helene raised money for us by doing a monumental job as chair of the “garage sale” and volunteered at the seasonal gift wrapping project. She was the chair of our Social Action Committee earning her several awards from WRJ and the Pacific District.
Helene was one of our “go to” women. Whenever there was a need, Helene was there to fill it with advice or service.
She was charming, warm, giving, sensible, dedicated and thoroughly delightful. She volunteered as receptionist for TBY and worked tirelessly on the Campership/Scholarship committee. When she passed away in 2016, Sisterhood unanimously decided to honor her by naming the Fund after her.
She was also a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a positive role model and a woman who made a difference! May her memory be for an abiding blessing.
The Helene R. Jacobs Campership Fund helps make it possible for TBY youth to attend Jewish Summer Camps and other Youth Programming.
The Women of Temple Bat Yahm are awarding partial scholarships to Temple religious school students who demonstrate an interest in attending a Jewish day camp or overnight camp.
Criteria for Campership is based on financial need and youngsters to whom the investment is a step towards the growth of personal Jewish identity, while also helping to encourage their involvement and dedication to the community.
